Historic Santa Fe Foundation
The mission of the Historic Santa Fe Foundation is to own, preserve and protect historic properties and resources of Santa Fe and its environs and to provide historic preservation education.
The Historic Santa Fe Foundation ensures the preservation of eight properties through ownership. Ownership of these properties allows us to preserve these properties for future generations, demonstrate the practice of architectural conservation, and provide models for the preservation of other historic buildings and sites.
The Historic Santa Fe Foundation protects historic properties through its Historic Preservation Easement Program. Historic Preservation Easements are legal agreements that give the easement holder, in this case the Foundation, a responsibility to protect the defining character and structural integrity of a particular historic property, even though that structure is owned by another person. This legal mechanism allows us to provide greater protection with the financial obligation of ownership.
The Foundation's Registry program documents significant structures by undertaking research and the maintenance of a registry of those deemed worthy of preservation. Over seventy structures have been listed and are thereby eligible to exhibit a bronze plaque that reads "The Historic Santa Fe Foundation Finds This Property Worthy of Preservation.
